Astrea is a deck-building roguelike which abandons cards entirely and replaces them with dice. The games main gimmick is the so-called Purification vs Corruption damage type, which makes everything much more interesting. You have be to create a vast pool of dice in order to fight the growing corruptive influence that threatens to bring the destruction of the Star System.

In Astrea, you need to deal with two ‘damage’ systems where the use of Purification will harm enemies as well as have the capability to heal yourself and, on the other hand, Corruption harms you, while healing your enemies. With Purification you can pacify foes or with Corruption cast skills that will change the tide of the battle in your favor. But then again, too much of Corruption can sometimes almost consume one, hence the need to be careful when apportioning ones deeds.

The game uses violence with a benefit that has a nice element to it as the game includes a Health Bar system. Profession connected to the health bar can be triggered with Corruption, and you can release devastating actions. But be careful—oversaturation of Corruption kills your work.

In its place you accumulate dice with special abilities dependant on the kind of game you want to play. You can choose from over 350 dice categorized into three types: They are, respectively, safe, balanced, and risky. The presented dice system is aimed to provide high volatility – high variability gameplay.

You can also ‘reskin’ the dice, which means you may now change the faces of your dice to gain new actions so that you get increased probabilities of getting high results. There are six types of Oracles available for inclusion into your deck and each of them has different set of dice, powers, and their approaches to gameplay differ, as well. Just as no strategy would do without a spellcaster or a berserker, no strategy will fail to include an Oracle to fit into the picture.

Astrea contains 20 upgradeable Support Sentinels – magical constructs that give the supporting dice rolls, which is always helpful on field. Also, you will be able to discover over 170 Blessings which provide different passive bonuses, you can choose between Star Blessings which provide subtle bonuses or Black Hole Blessings which provide big bonuses but with some drawbacks.
