Lunar Nightmare Overview:

Lunar Nightmare is a scifi horror game with focus on elements a that can be associated with the post modernist aesthetics of retro-futurism. The objectives that are set in front of the player are to find the missing crew, to discover hidden artifacts under the lunar surface, to avoid being controlled by an evil AI and to survive from malicious androids.

Even with these flaws, if you are a sci-fi horror RPG fan that likes themes set in the 70s or 80s then this is an absolute must-buy. Your inventory will be a used in solving complex nonlinear audio-cyberpunk-based puzzles. Better drive lunar vehicles and wander around the vast Moon’s landscapes, experience jumpscares at every turn when trying to repair the spaceship and cover yourself with a retro-themed blaster gun to fight AI-controlled androids. In its content, there is an evil and threatening music that contributes to the build-up of tension in the game.

It is quite short and can be done under 3 hours at most and the keys that are tightened can be loosened again when necessary. Built on Unreal Engine 5, the game runs at 4K with ray-tracing if you have a powerful GPU. There is even running key, but it is better to wander and stay several minutes to look at the background story as well.

The game is set in 2049, and as the title denoted space background, it is staged in a lunar research base – AstroGenica Lunar Nexus – that had turned into the scene of a failed experiment. More specifically, the player starting his journey as the main character finds himself in a solitary cold and technologically sophisticated medical pod. If any are left alive, the only noises come from machines that always sound as if they are failing, and it’s cold and dark, and the darkness seems spiteful.

You move through the dark corridors of the station and see what’s left of the crew – unexplained notes, short records and frightened rants, stoneground science performed in the name of humanity. You can understand that working for the crew, the characters provoked the awakening of an extraterrestrial force which feeds on the fear and transforms the reality inside the base.
